Fossetts Circus!

This week I went to my first circus! I went to the Fossetts circus near the old shopping centre in Dundalk on wednesday and I have to say I was very impressed. The talent the performers had was endless! They did some things that made my heart jump particularly when they brought out the death sphere and three people entered into it and drove around it on motorcycles, as one slip up and there could of easily been a serious accident.
I wont reveal to much incase people reading this intend to see it, however I will say I was slightly disappointed by the lack of animals in the circus, but then again I'm totally against animal cruelty which is how some of the animals are trained to do their tricks, so it's probaly best they didnt have any.

Web Standards

As the worldwide web has become so popular in recent years, it is important for it to be accessible to everyone particularly those who have difficulty with their hearing, sight, or co- ordination. Web standards were developed with these people in mind, they are a set of standards set up to advise anyone who is creating a website on how to make it more accessible for everyone. Web standards are not compulsory or a form of legislation, but their advise can prove invaluable for companies and help prevent unnecessary lawsuits for discrimination.

My experience of DKIT

My experience in DKIT has been interesting to say the least and four years have gone by pretty quick!!

I first came to DKIT at the tender age of 17, and it has been the place of some of my most memorable experiences. I moved out of my family house in Dublin to Dundalk, got evicted due to a kitchen fire(which i didnt cause!), met my first proper boyfriend, had many nights out in Dundalk, and met some great friends!

My first day in DKIT, I set myself a challenge to introduce myself to as many people as possible, and while I was in the queue at reception to be told where to go for my first class, I turned around and introduced myself to the boy behind me who turned out to be none other then my class and housemate Alan Rooney!!

Shortly after that Matthew from our class moved into the same house as me and one evening in November during a drinking session, he tried to cook chips and accidently set the kitchen on fire!! He was evicted for being a health and safety hazard and I was due to financial reasons.

I can't complain to much as the next house i moved into had five boys in it, one of which turned out to become my first proper boyfriend and now three years down the line we have remained really close friends.

As for the nights out well lets just say they always involve alcohol, boys, dancing, takeaways, late nights and wasting money!!

DKIT has been one big learning experience, and looking back I wouldn't change any of it!

Just to get it off my mind....

Im not going to bore you with a list of complaints about fourth year, but i just have to say am i the only one who thinks that maybe they made a mistake by doing fourth year? I knew it was going to be hard work, it was hardly suprising. Admittedly, i haven't been the most motivated person to get the college work done, so it's mostly my own fault that im regretting it but the research paper, well im struggling and honestly don't have much of a clue what im doing and it's due in three weeks! Is anyone else feeling the same?

Mobile Computing

An example of mobile computing is hand held wireless device that allows waiting staff to provide a more efficent service. The devices work by sending the orders through the internet without having to go into the kitchen. This saves time and lets staff deal with other jobs that need to be done or other customers. Mobile computing is recent technology to the hospitality industry although i myself have not had the chance to use it.

Search Engine Optimisation

Search engine optimisation is based around people trying to attract as many visitors as possible to their website through using a variety of methods. Websites measure how popular they are through search engines such as

One of which are using key words in the title of your webpage and throughout the text of your webpage. Oddly enough Google doesnt recognise pictures and can only read text so therefore prefers dull websites with lots of quality text instead of a nice page. So the lesson here is the more boring and text rich your website the higher up in the Google list you will go, after all, whats the point being on the tenth page? Nobody looks there!

Decisions,Decisions

As I've looked through everyone's blog pages, leaving college has been a common topic discussed and it seems everyone has some form of a plan for after college except I'm not so sure what exactly mine is. Ive discussed going to America with my housemates but I've also briefly discussed going to Australia with my friends from Dublin. If i go either place it wont be until late this year or early next year but its making any type of decision that is my problem. I am very indecisive when it comes to most things.I tend to let other people make most the decisions when it comes to certain things because if it was up to me it could be days before a decision was made!!!

Guess this will be one big decision i will have to make myself....I'm just glad its only March now!

Virtual Communities

Currently I'm not much of a virtual community user although over the weekend i did join Bebo but im still trying to get the hang of it to be honest! I never understood what could be so fascinating about Bebo,My space and the other virtual communities but i decided to join after my friend told me if i didn't create a Bebo page she would do it for me. This wouldn't of been a issue at all but i know that my friends intentions weren't exactly...honorable!
I must say that even though i wasn't exactly keen on joining,i have noticed that it is alittle addictive. I find myself wanting to look at Bebo when i get a email to say I've got a message and wondering what else i can add to my page to make it more interesting! Heres a quick view of my bebo page

As for communities such as Second Life, well I've never been on it so i don't know enough about it to comment to much on it.as far as i am aware its basically the real world virtually.I don't think that its necessarily a bad thing to go on websites like Second Life now and again as abit of fun. When you think of Second Life and the people who use it,you could be mistaken into thinking it's used by people who have no friends in the real world and even though ive never been on it, i personally don't think that the case at all.

Just a thought about Valentines Day...

This week alot of people will have spent alot of money buying gifts for the ones they love in order to prove their affection. Some people will love their gifts, and others, depending on what their partners idea of a romantic gift is,will hate their gifts. Everybody likes to receive gifts and I for one am no different but is it really necessary to spend a small fortune to prove to someone you love them,or is it just another commercial holiday? Surely you can show someone they mean something to you without buying them expensive gifts. I am personally on the fence about this but then again i am happily single so this year it will be just another day to me!

Rag Week!!!!

Rag week started today! After the last four years of it not much has changed, the line up stays pretty much the same with the hen and stag on tuesday, the wedding wednesday and the main ball on thursday. Normally i go to atleast 2 or 3 of the rag week nights out, however this year im only going to one which is the wedding! I would of went on thursday but its a mystery tour and as its fifty euro a ticket it could turn out to be a waste of money if its no good! So i think this year i will skip going to the main ball and just go to Amber or Silence because atleast there if it's not a good night i can get a takeaway and a cheap taxi home. Then again a night is what you make it!!!

Fitness week!!

This week i found out i would part of the group organising the event for the thursday of fitness week. I didnt actually volunteer to do it, i was selected when i wasnt in class! Im not a overly sporty person, infact these days the only remotely sporty thing i do is dance after a couple of drinks! Maybe i gave Meave the impression that i was! Anyhow its a good opportunity and we have a couple of ideas that everyone can take part in! So we will be expecting everyone to get involved including lecturers!!
